Posted under Radio Technology by Ayah Mat on Saturday 6 February 2010 at 1:16 am

We are all aware of the fact that our computers whether at home or at our workplace or at any organisation need to have a backup energy source to keep them running and most importantly to save our precious data, something we just cannot afford to lose. But apart from a backup source what we also require is a RBC7 backup battery tester to check that the UPS battery backup source is functioning smoothly and will provide the essential backup for the UPS system.

As we have seen above, it is very important to have UPS backup battery powerware to enable your equipments to run efficiently without fail while at the same time protecting them and your important data from being lost. Having an uninterrupted power supplies backup batteries is of vital importance especially if it is a large organisation such as the telecommunications industry where the core service relies completely on sensitive equipment. Not having a proper backup source in such a situation would mean not only a city but a whole country coming to a standstill which is something that cannot even be thought of.

Besides having an efficient backup battery source, it is also important to have an UPS backup battery tester to ensure that the UPS system running the equipments is fully powered and will take on the load in case of a crisis, such as a sudden power cut or voltage fluctuations or other electrical disturbances. This battery backup tester will test the functioning of the battery and warn you when it notices that the battery is getting weak and needs to either be charged or a replacement be made so that there is no hindrance to your work and your data is also properly saved.

The best UPS backup battery system tester is available from APC, one of the leading providers of uninterrupted power supply systems and batteries the world over. It works with all kinds of systems and ensures that they are functioning well and will start up and provide support to the system when required.

An UPS APC battery backup tester is vital to those businesses that are powered by an off-line UPS battery backup system. As an off-line UPS battery backup system does not begin to function until there is a power failure on which occasion it will be required to provide its stored energy to the original power supplier so that the equipments connected to it continue to operate without disturbance. Since the UPS battery backup is static at most times and has to suddenly start off in case of a power cut, it is important to have a battery tester to keep vigil on its functionality.

Off-line UPS systems can lie dormant for days on end or even for months and therefore have to be made sure that they are properly charged to function when needed. It is not as important to have a UPS backup battery tester for the on-line and the line interactive UPS systems as much as it is necessary to have one for the off-line UPS systems.

Radio City Music Hall

Posted under Radio Technology by Ayah Mat on Monday 19 October 2009 at 8:46 am

One of the largest entertainment venues in New York, Manhattan, Radio City Music Hall lies at the heart of the city’s Rockefeller Center. Back in the late 70s this used to be a major city attraction and a landmark at the same time, but many things have changed ever since although the venue still enjoys popularity. The complex as such was developed during the Depression years at the initiative of John D. Rockefeller Jr., who intended to create a new location for the Metropolitan Opera. The plans were dropped after the fall of the stock market in 1929. As for the name of the Radio City Music Hall, it comes from the first tenants, the Radio Corporation of America.

Films and theater performances, these are the two purposes that the Radio City Music Hall serves, and when it was opened there was no other larger similar entertainment building in the world. The interior decorations were also considered spectacular with Rococo design, geometric decorative elements, incorporated glass and aluminum and an incredibly complex system of elevators that few organizations had at the time. The Radio City Music Hall was closed for renovation until the beginning of the 80s when it was once again open to the public.

At present, the Radio City Music Hall serves for movie premieres, live stage performances and concerts. The Music Christmas show is one tradition preserved since the first days of the theater. The most famous part of the show is the Rockettes, a team dance performed by women with a high-quality precision. The same Radio City Music Hall is the annual location for important events like the Grammy Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards or Daytime Emmy Awards shows, but several bands have also recorded some albums on the premises too. This is the case of Heaven and Hell and Dream Theater who concerted and made live CDs/DVDs here.

Plenty of other occasional events are held here all year round, as the hall is available for rental to a wide range of entertainers who are willing to pay to perform in this Manhattan location. For tourists, Radio City Music Hall definitely remains a sight to see if you visit New York; the place is an important element of American culture and a seat for lots of significant cultural events. Radio City Music Hall is actually part of the popular culture, and it has appeared in lots of famous movies like The Godfather, Annie or A.I. Artificial Intelligence.

internet radio station

Posted under Radio Technology by Ayah Mat on Saturday 17 October 2009 at 7:33 pm

The regular FM radios have lost a lot of their advantages in the competition with Internet radio stations that can require only online connection and a computer. The huge dimension of the world wide web broadcasting has determined the Copyright Royalty Board to impose fees for broadcasters who want to use the Internet for radio stations; what is further to the disadvantage of the radio owners is that they have to pay retroactively for all the entire period during which they have activated online. Some people say that this could be the end of Internet radio and that only very wealthy corporations will be able to pay the price.

Would this be goodbye to Internet radio stations? The problem is that many Internet radio stations are operated by hobbyists or enthusiasts that promote new music and revive the oldies on request. Many of the programs cannot be found with corporate-owned stations that sometimes lack the emotion and the passion a small broadcaster puts in the work. A huge media upsurge occurred after this news was released and blog comments all over the Internet protest against the Copyright Royalty Board that would bring about the closing of many small radio stations.

Neither the public nor the artists benefit from the crippling of such a groundbreaking online presence. In order to be able to pay the fees and stay functional on the profitable side, Internet radio stations would have to incorporate a lot more advertising into their formats. Commercials are considered the main cause for popularity decrease that corporate radio stations face, and the absence of such breaks in the broadcast actually guided some listeners towards online shows. So, where a radio station runs a commercial now, it will run two in the near future to come, and a very positive aspect of online broadcasting will be compromised for good.

Hope remains that smart guys will always find a breech in the system, or that the system itself will improve and allow us to move to the next stage of radio broadcasting. Presently, there are hundreds of sites that provide all sorts of complex listings with Internet radio stations worldwide. Resources for detailed info on various aspects of the Radio and Entertainment Industry are also present with many such web pages. The main good bits about online broadcasting is that for the time being the restrictions are pretty reduced and they can be accessed and enjoyed anywhere in the world if you have a computer and network connectivity.

National Public Radio

Posted under Radio Technology by Ayah Mat on Friday 16 October 2009 at 6:20 am

The National Public Radio is the American non-profit media structure that serves almost eight hundred public radio stations across the country. Founded in 1970, it only had ninety public stations in the beginning, and just like today it depended on private and public funds to operate. The programs it produces cover cultural shows and news most of the time, and part of these programs are taken over and broadcast further on by individual radio stations. The listeners’ preference for the National Public Radio is very high, as they run two of the most popular radio shows in the country: the Morning Edition and the afternoon All Things Considered.

The stations that the National Public Radio works with have to be educational and non-commercial with an operation range of eighteen hours per day at the minimum. Half the budget of the National Public Radio comes from the fees charged from these other radio stations that receive their programs. Some further funds come from the government, under the form of university grants or by means of on-air pledge drives. The economic crisis of 2008 has made its presence felt at the National Public Radio by the reduction of the staff with 7%; the announcement made on December 10, indicates that not only the private business sector is affected by the financial drop, but the effects are felt in all environments.

The National Public Radio does not have any form of traditional commercials, thus advertising is presented as short statements from their main donors, this is the case with Archer Daniels Midland, Merck or Allstate. Instead of commercials, these statements are known as underwriting spots, and they are created in accordance with the FCC restrictions. Thus, none of the ads presented on the National Public Radio is allowed to advocate a product or to urge customers; the good part is that the National Public Radio does not depend on the donors exclusively to make their budget the way commercial radio stations do on advertisers.

Statistics indicate that the average listeners of the National Public Radio are in their mature adulthood, usually male and mainly white. Only 20% of the audience is estimated to be non-white. Given its distinct status, The National Public Radio cannot be ranked the same way other radio stations are according to popularity criteria. As for negative reviews, hot debates and criticisms have been fired occasionally when the National Public Radio has been accused of political bias repeatedly with allegations as being anti-Israel for instance.

Pandora radio

Posted under Radio Technology by Ayah Mat on Wednesday 14 October 2009 at 5:07 pm

Music Genome Project is the father of Pandora radio and automated music recommendation program that allows users to select a song or an artist they love before the system can provide similar if not the exact requested results. The music broadcast on Pandora radio is also available for purchase on Amazon.com or iTunes Store as well as on other Internet websites. The complexity of the music selection system is very high with a lot of criteria taken into consideration for the choice of the next play. The program attributes fall under several categories known as the focus traits, and it suffices to say that there are more than 2,000 such traits specific to Pandora radio.

Since July 2008, there is a portable software version available for Pandora radio, and so far more than two million iPhone users are taking advantage of the application wherever they go. There are two versions of Pandora radio available, one is free and one is subscription-based; the advantages of the paid one is that there are no commercials whatsoever, while with the free variant they are included part of the service. Pandora radio like may other stations cannot run without the advertising time they sell to businesses.

The recent regulations passed by the Copyright Royalty Board forced Pandora radio to limit its broadcasting to the United States only, and while the terrestrial radios remain unaffected by the rules, licensing guarantees and fees, online broadcasters have very few possibilities to continue their activities. Europeans trying to access Pandora Radio receive a message with an explanation that their Euro-IP is barred and that usage of the service has been restricted to the United States only. Without this measure, Pandora Radio would have collapsed because of the doubling of the fee-per-song required by the Copyright Royalty Board.

Next year, negotiations will continue to reopen Pandora Radio to the rest of the world if the taxes get lower. Rewind and repeat is not possible with the Pandora automated recommendation music system, all you can do is to ask for something similar to the song played before. Then, another restrictive feature of the program is the one that forbids more than six skips per hour. And last but not least when listening to Pandora radio, remember that it does not play-on-demand but rather provides similar music of the kind required by the user. The freedom the user has under the circumstances is to sample songs from a selected artist’s page.
