Alzheimer’s Information

Unbelievably, one out of ten people over the age of 65 have Alzheimer’s disease. In fact, in a recent statistic polls, almost 19 million Americans suffer one way or the other from this dreaded progressive disease. Below are some information that you will find useful about the disease.

What is Alzheimer’s disease?

Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative problem characterized by memory loss as well as loss in thinking skills. It is actually part of a constellation of memory and brain problems called dementia. It can lead to behavioral changes, loss of language skills, disorientation, confusion and increasing dependency. Most experts believe that Alzheimer’s is caused by a problem in the genetic make-up and is often associated with old age.

What are the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease?

What is however difficult with this problem is the fact that the onset of the disease will often manifest in symptoms often associated with forgetfulness when getting old. What separates this problem though is the fact that people with Alzheimer’s will eventually even forget normal routines and simple tasks. For instance, patients with Alzheimer’s can forget how to hold a spoon and fork while others will forget how to brush their teeth and take a bath. Believe it or not, some medical experts even say that some even forget hoe to breathe, something which comes quite naturally with a person.

One problem though with this is the fact that one can actually have no way of knowing whether it is ordinary forgetfulness or Alzheimer’s when it is just in the initial stages. It can start with ordinary forgetting of names and faces until it progresses to something major that can render the person totally incapacitated.

Who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease?

Although there are cases of Alzheimer’s that affected people in their 30s, most patients are over the age of 65 and a vast majority is over the age of 85. In addition to old age, experts believe that a family history of the same problem or of dementia may predispose someone to the disease. This is because experts pinpoint a defect in the genetic make up of the person who has Alzheimer’s disease.

People who are not much into mental pursuits or work that do not much involve mental strains will also most likely develop the disease compared to people who often stretch their mental muscles. In fact, one of the way to prevent the onset of dementia is to exercise the brain all the time especially during old age.

Even when one is already retired from work, old people should not forget to still use their minds by engaging in mental pursuits such as reading, answering crossword puzzles and even playing board games.

How do you diagnose Alzheimer’s Disease?

As mentioned earlier, it is extremely difficult for a person to differentiate an ordinary case of forgetfulness and dementia at the beginning of the progression. Some of the symptoms of the disease such as slow mental processing and forgetfulness may be attributed to other problems such as thyroid gland problems, reactions to medications that are being taken, and even just a normal aging process.

To really ensure that the problem is indeed Alzheimer’s, doctors rule out other possibilities and conduct series of tests. The only way actually to conclusively determine the presence of Alzheimer’s is to examine a cross section of the brain tissue when a person is already dead.

Formula One racing developed out of the early 1900s European Grand Prix racing. Early Grand Prix racing had a “formula” of rules for drivers and their vehicles. Following World War II an even stricter formula was developed. This new formula was referred to as Formula One, indicating that it was number one as far as being the most challenging set of rules to follow. The first Formula One World Championship race was held in England in 1950.

More on Formula One Italian Giuseppe Farina holds the title of First World Champion Formula One driver. He won driving an Alfa Romeo. Formula One World Championships are now awarded in two divisions, one for the driver and one for the constructor, or builder, of the racecar. Europe is home to Formula One racing. Over the years the Formula One racing venues have expanded around the globe. The circuit now includes races in Bahrain, Shanghai and Fiji as well as the more traditional locations of Monte Carlo and Magny-Cours. Less than half of the 2009 season Formula One races will be held in Europe. The Formula One racing season lasts from March through October each year.

follow the buddies’ comments…

Orang tak nak kita, takkan kita nak ter hegeh-hegeh. Biarlah K.Terengganu berada dibawah PAS. Hidup Kemamang..!

FR (Org Ganu) - BN bila kalah nak tarik duit royalty minyak…itu rezeki Tuhan pd negeri dan rakyat Trg jgn pandai2 nak tarik nanti tumpah atas badan sendiri terus jadi org minyak…Nanti pengundi langsung tak endah CALON BN marah pulak…

KR - mlm sabtu sebelum hari undi aku terima sms dari someone kat KT selama
3 hari. dia dtg dari negeri lain utk show support kat umno. Survey

Umno needs to be exciting again: Muhyiddin
By ROYCE CHEAH

MANAMA (Bahrain): Umno needs to return the “wow” factor that used to
make the public sit up, take notice and want to be part of the party,
Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

Commenting on Umno’s Kuala Terengganu by-election loss, Muhyiddin said
although Barisan Nasional and Umno had brought development to the
country, it appeared to be insufficient.

“The people want radical improvements after what happened in the last
election. We must be able to do something that would attract the
public.”

menyokong UMNO. Serasa akule, PAS tak exciting sebab takda duit
berterbangan dan asyik cakap ibadat je. Muhyiddin nak interesting
macam mana lagi?

Kata Muyidin lagi “able to do something that would attract the public”
-  UMNO kena bukak biznes funfair agaknye. Pk aku kalau tetiba UMNO
buat hudud baru betul interesting. (Harap bukan ralat reporter tu buat
translation)

MI - Keropok Lekor and Batik sellers in Terengganu are the few millionaires who bought BMW and MERC with cash (exaggerated). Unlike the cronies who are swindling money from national treasures. Hopefully, UMNO will learn a lesson that people don’t want corrupt politicians anymore, probably they can go to Zimbabwe or something.

MJ - Politicians should know when the people of do not want them, period but then again corrupt politicians are not known to have brains to accept any facts.

KR - In response to The Star news

kalau ikut pandangan aku…..umno tak perlu pikir complicated sangat. yg sebenarnya majoriti org sekarang tengah susah. golongan yg senang tak peduli pun pasal politik ni. yg umno masih lagi dok gila kejar duit, tunjuk kaya, lawan sesama sendiri dlm umno. wakil rakyat tak nak duduk dlm kawasan yg dia wakili dll.
umno masih lagi try utk menang melalui ahli umno yg dia org rasa cukup ramai tu dgn cara beri kontrak or biz melalui ketua bahagian dan ketua pemuda. dia org tak pikir cara macam mana nak dpt undi dari voters yg tidak ahli mana mana perti yg akan undi berdasarkan calun bukan parti.
menjerit la pemimpim umno, para cerdik pandai suruh ubah tapi kalau nak ubah ikut teori or tesis cerdik pandai yg ada phd…..then umno definately tak boleh survive next election.

“Presiden parti, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi dan bakal penggantinya, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak perlu melakukan perubahan radikal, pembedahan politik, jika terpaksa,” katanya.

Happy New Year.

Simply amazing. You cannot be wrong with this video. Gives you that feel-good feeling all the way.

You can say that eventually the vid is meaningless but I think that it drives one solid point that the world can still be united by some fun.

One comment I took off youtube

“there’s something amazing to say when people all over the world, of all skin tones and cultural backgrounds letting their personal insecurities go and not be afraid to look ridiculous for a few seconds. I just don’t know how to say it except :)

Dr Asri bengang lagi. Apa tak…lagi-lagi gam, lagi-lagi haram. Macammana nak jadi kaya macam ni?

(Cerita ban kat sini - harakahdaily)

Switching from Celcom to Digi

Switching from Celcom to Digi?

Or Switching from Maxis to Celcom? Or Switching from Digi to Maxis?

Mobile Number Portability - What Is It

With so many daily advertisements by the major mobile operators in Malaysia, Celcom, Digi and Maxis, I am sure you would already know about mobile number portability (MNP). MNP is officially called wireless local number portability or wireless LPN.

Mobile number portability means you can keep your existing mobile telephone number when you change your service provider.

Mobile number portability is simply keeping your mobile phone number when moving from your existing service provider to a new provider. It means you will use the services and features offered by your new provider - you will no longer use your existing service and its features with you. Before changing service providers, you should check with the selected new provider to ensure it can provide the services and features you need (such as voicemail, SMS or related services such as fax and data).

You should take advantage of the mobile number portability when you can. This will save you from having to inform everyone you know that you have a new mobile phone number. This would be a big pain and you can almost guarantee that you will forget to tell someone. This is one very good reason why the LPN portability is a good idea for everyone that has a mobile phone.

It may be cheaper just to get a new number but you won’t know unless you take the time to find out as much as you can. Mobile phones are a great thing to have but there are so many features and so many services that people don’t know anything about. Don’t be one of them, stay informed.

Before you decide to change providers and keep your mobile number, ask these questions:

  1. When does my existing mobile service contract expire, if any?
  2. Is there anything to pay, like an early termination fee or ongoing costs (access charges) under my existing mobile service contract if I move my number to a new provider?
  3. Am I the authorised customer?
  4. What do I want from my mobile service? Which provider best meets my needs?

If the new provider fails to warn you that you may have existing contractual obligations or you do not properly authorise the transfer of your existing mobile number you do not have to proceed with the move.

Teeth causing bad breath

Are Your Teeth Causing Your Bad Breath?

Bad breath is something that nobody wants to talk about but everybody worries about from time to time. Many times, it is just a case of them being nervous over nothing but there are times when you may have a problem that is causing bad breath, or halitosis. If you are fortunate enough, someone may tell you about the problem, and knowing about it is the first step in correcting it.

You may not realize it, but your teeth may be the culprit when it comes to your halitosis. There are actually several different things that can happen with your teeth that could cause persistent bad breath. Let’s take a look at each of these problems and find out what you can do about them.

The most obvious problem that you may be having with your teeth is poor oral hygiene. brushing your teeth on a regular basis is your first and best defense against halitosis. If this is an area where you are lacking, you will want to buy a new, soft bristled toothbrush and begin brushing first thing in the morning and after every meal. You will notice a difference almost immediately. You should also pay attention to the area between your teeth, as food left in this area can decay and cause a foul odor as well.

Brushing first thing in the morning is a good idea, as we just mentioned but this doesn’t actually have anything to do with your teeth. It has more to do with your mouth drying out overnight and bacteria growing in the environment it leaves behind. In this case, it is bacteria that is the problem, not your teeth.

The best thing that you can do if the problem persists after you pick up your oral hygiene a notch is to visit a dentist. They will be able to check for other problems with your teeth that might be causing a problem, such as tooth decay or an abbess. They will also be able to rule out any other problems that might be happening with your teeth and direct you to a specialist that may be able to help you in your particular circumstance.

Bad breath is a problem that will would all like to do without but if it is being caused by problems with your teeth, it is 100% preventable. Kick up your oral hygiene a notch and speak to a dentist. It usually only takes a little bit of a preventative measure to make a difference in how your breath smells.

Bad breath halitosis

Ketosis - Bad Breath Personified

Bad breath can be caused by a number of different problems, some of them easy to detect and others that are not as easy. For some of us, it is a simple matter of having problems with our teeth but for others, the problem they go much deeper than that. Many people that have a problem with halitosis end up going to the dentist in order to see if they can have the problem fixed and many times, the dentist is able to fix it. There may be occasions whenever the bad breath is caused by other problems instead of problems with our mouth and in this case, a dentist would refer us to another doctor.

One of the ways that a dentist may be able to tell if bad breath problems are coming from the mouth or not is by how it smells. For those of us that have a problem with tooth decay or perhaps gum disease, there will be a specific odor because we are dealing with bacteria and decay. There will be other odors that may be coming out of your mouth, however, if the problem lies somewhere else. At times, the bad breath may smell like urine and if this is the case, it may be an indication that you’re having a problem with your kidneys.

One of the more common reasons why people have bad breath is because they are having a problem with diabetes. Whenever this happens, their breath tends to have a fruity smelling odor as a result of a problem known as ketosis. Interestingly enough, this is also a problem that is caused whenever we fast and chemicals are broken down in our body and it is burning fat for fuel, as in the case of the Atkins diet. A dentist will not be able to help you with this type of halitosis because it stems from someplace else other than your mouth.

In order for you to treat bad breath that is coming from diabetes or ketosis, you’re going to have to get to the root of the problem and treat the diabetes itself. You may also need to keep breath mints with you in order to cover of the problem until you’re able to effectively deal with it. Remember, bad breath can happen for a number of different reasons and if it tips you to the fact that you are having a more serious problem, be happy that you have it.
